Surface to Air Missile (S.A.M)

Missile designed specifically to intercept other missile. Uses an IR sensor to detect any missile within 30 meters. Once a missile is detect it will accelerate to impact. Normally a SAM is faster than a missile allowing for impact without an intercept vector. For faster moving targets mods like computer craft would be needed to calculate an intercept.

Logic

When fired will use the same flight logic as other missiles. With a detector script scanning for targets. Once detected it will flip the flight logic over to follow target. This causes the missile to move in a vector towards the target. With an increase in speed to assist in impact chance. Once near the missile will explode and cause damage to anything nearby.

How to setup

SAM system in ICBM is rather weak at the moment. Requiring care in planning to ensure a higher probability of success. This is due to the delay in launching and detection of missiles. Combined with the speed and angle of attack of any incoming missiles. It is not uncommon for a missile to come strait down over the target. Making any intercept attempt difficult.

To get the most of the missile setup a cruise launcher aimed in a direction of attack. Then link the launcher to a radar detecting in front of the cruise launcher. This will reduce the delay and allow aiming the missile to improve chances. Combining with computer craft like mods can allow for updating this aim in real time.

History

  • Use to be called Anti-Missile Missile or AB Missile for short
  • Use to be an explosive type with custom implementation in the explosive-missile logic
