Jane Williamson

My husband passed away last year and I am embarrassed about the state of our finances.

Demographics/ethnographics

  • female
  • 46
  • stay-at-home mom
  • two kids
  • finance novice

Bio

Jane has been married for the past 20 years. Just recently, her husband passed away leaving her in charge of the family finances for the first time in her life. Previously a stay at home mom, she is now looking for a full time job that will provide stability for herself and her children.

Goals

  • Understand how many bills I have a month and where I can cut back
  • Gain confidence and some form of financial literacy
  • Create a one income budget that will allow me to provide for my children

Frustrations

  • Most financial advice seems geared towards the young or the retired. What about people like me?
  • I'm ashamed to admit I left all the finances to my husband and I don't want anyone to know how out of control I feel.

Cameron Scott

I live paycheck to paycheck and the stress is exhausting.

Demographics/ethnographics

  • male
  • 27
  • works full time
  • no kids
  • has roommate

Bio

Recently graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, Cameron's current goal is to pay off his student loans. Occasionally he will have an extra 100 dollars per month to add to his minimum payment, but it's not consistent. Mitchell already feels as though he's stretched to the limit with his finances and is barely scraping by each month. He feels overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start.

Goals

  • Learn about any financial benefits or discounts that are available to teachers.
  • Save a 500 dollar emergency fund .
  • Pay off student loan debt

Frustrations

  • I don't feel like conventional financial wisdom applies to me.
  • I make "too much" to qualify for government assistance but I feel like I'm barely paying my bills each month.
  • My finances are already stretched thin, so advice like cutting out restaurant food and coffee don't apply to my situation.
