Design Studio

We use the Design Studio process to make sure that we are considering as many solutions to a problem as possible. While we may begin with a single idea, we want to mitigate the possibility of confirmation bias by starting with an explicit brainstorming period. This is a manifestation of our Design Thinking culture. We want to encourage the creation of new alternatives (divergence) before we coalesce around one solution. By brainstorming, we bring the whole team, not just the UX designers, into the solution process. Once all the ideas are weighed and considered, we can more easily converge to a single goal.

We will often use Figma, a collaborative tool, to bring in local as well as remote team members in on the Design Studio. For CFPB, the My Money Calendar, the UX Designer led us through a series of exercises and we came up with our own solutions. Each member presented their thought process and then there was a voting process. Here is a look at one of our scratchboards after a Design Studio.
