Welcome! This wiki is home to research, design, and planning documentation efforts for the CFPB CFGOV-REFRESH project.

Background

Raft is partnering with CPIT to develop a new Grants Management System (GMS) that can better meet the needs of all of the users. CPIT gives out grants to researchers that are interested in studying areas related to cancer prevention and survival. Currently, CPIT uses clunky systems for grants monitoring, budget and accounting, reporting, and emails for correspondence. These systems have to be queried separately to provide an update on a grant and thus it is difficult for CPIT to track and accurately report the impact of grants being awarded. Our team has been engaged to create a centralized grants system by using user-centered development practices.

As part of this effort, we are interviewing people who have experience with the different phases of grants, developing prototypes, and testing our assumptions in usability sessions.

Approach

Creating a centralized GMS that is comprehensive to meet the needs of the users is an elaborate process. We will start with forming a consensus on the MVP requirements and then adding enhancements as we progress. We will follow the design sprint methodology with a focus on getting mockups or clickable prototypes (or even competitors' similar products) in front of users to get their reactions to what features they like, don't understand, and messaging. We have followed this approach successfully on other projects in the past and it has significantly reduced the duration of preliminary research phase of the sprint.
