It is important that these instructions are followed to ensure timely start/end of shows and handover from previous and to next show host. MSP Waves thanks every DJ for their prudence.

Operational Security

1. Any new DJ will be assigned a personal stream key once show has been approved scheduled/scheduled
2. The DJs Personal Stream Keys must never be divulged in open chat.
3. The DJ must never give their key to anyone else.

Handover Procedure

Precept

Every streaming DJ needs to make themselves known 30 mins before their show in the #show-handover channel on the MSPWaves Operations Discord server for handover coordination with incoming and outgoing DJ and MSP Waves staff.

Step 1 Report to MSP Waves

The DJ in the #show-handover channel must tag the role @Show Handover Duty to summon an MSP Waves Operations engineer to establish communication for the handoff.

Step 2 Audio Test¹

Co-hosts and guest should be available for audio testing if audio testing is required. In order to audio test, the DJ is asked to begin streaming and when prompted speak, have guests/co-hosts speak, play recorded audio, etc. The DJ may me asked to stop the stream after the audio test and start the stream again approximately 10 minutes before show start.

Important: Never start a stream without being explicitly asked by an MSP Waves Engineer to do so!

Handover Types

• Timed Show Start (preferred)
• via text signal in the audience chat room. This method may be used when normal schedule is interrupted. Alternatively, a different timed start may be agreed on.

Step 3 Catch Stream

To ensure a smooth transition from one show to the next, the stream has to be 'caught' and acknowledged by the OpsTeam no later than 10 minutes before scheduled show start unless otherwise agreed.

Step 4 Start Recording (OBS)

Step 5 Start Show

The DJ will begin the show audio 5 seconds to the hour. The MSP Waves engineer will transition the DJ Stream to live ON AIR. Please note, There is a delay of several seconds between the DJ transmission and the live stream. This is broadcast standard.

If the show is scheduled to start at 03:00:00 (hh:mm:ss), the DJ starts the show at 02:59:55 (hh:mm:ss) by using https://time.is/UTC as the synchronized MSP Waves time.*

👍  Illustration:

To start broadcast at the top of the hour, the broadcaster starts it's programme, talk, jingle, or music at 5 seconds before the top of the hour, i.e. 55 seconds. The MOBS transition to live occurs at the top of the hour, i.e. at 00 seconds.*

Step 6 - Show End

The reverse works the same way: DJ stops audio at 55 seconds to the scheduled show end. DJ ends stream 15 seconds after show end, i.e. 10 seconds past the hour.

🏃  Quick Recap

• The broadcast stream is captured 5-15 minutes before the show start by MSP Waves Engineer.
• The broadcast stream on DJ side is ended 10 seconds after show end, i.e. 05 seconds past the hour.
• Broadcasters: Please don't forget to start/stop your recordings.

2. Text Signal Handover

The audio stream has already been captured.

The DJ starts the show at "Off to you [@Upcoming DJ]" cue in the #mspwaves-audience room.

• The same process in reverse may be used to end a show.

👍  Please Note

• Upcoming DJ's "MSP Waves" OBS profile stream must be started at a minimum of 5 mins before show.
  • This minimum time is sufficient only when audio quality has been consistent from week to week.
    

⌛  Note

• You will not be live on MSP Waves until OPS makes the switch with the MOBS on the handoff signal or agreed time to switch over.

Contingency Use the "Backup" OBS Profile to go live. Upcoming DJ will receive instructions in #show-handoff if contingency is required.
