Data Governance PMC Meeting 17th May 2018
To discuss the outline compliance model for open metadata and governance.
Mandy Chessell John Mertic Greg Glodsmith Ernie Ostic Maryna Strelchuk Mike Schultz Nigel Jones David Radley Susan Malaika
Ernie: A common request is to support different types of assets - eg tables and columns - could be more course-grained by area.
For the repository services there are 2 dimensions: Depth of function (see compliance workbook - https://github.com/odpi/data-governance/blob/master/compliance/repository-compliance/Open%20Metadata%20-%20Repository%20Compliance%20Workbook.xlsx) Breath of metadata types covered by type or are https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/ATLAS/Building+out+the+Open+Metadata+Typesystem
Maryna - need a minimal set of APIs and types in order to be compliant - because specific types needed for each OMAS.
Mandy - each omas could code a runtime check to make sure their types are supported by the cohort (group of communicating repositories).
Each OMAS has a pass or fail certification. Compliance tests could be a function test that defines what is working and what is not.
For OMRS, there is also a pass/fail but "notSupported" is a valid response for optional functions. OMRS repositories need to support at least 1 type - however we also characterize the types they support into groups / areas.
Long term optional criteria we could add NFR measurements and benchmarks - quantity, speed, resilience, security. People could publish the speed/size used in the compliance so vendor can know what is good / good enough.
A vendor could also formally document other capabilities and documentation associated with open metadata. Showing the degree of investment the vendor has made in supporting the standards.
Do we offer credit for contribution of connectors and other customizations back to community?
There are also connectors for platform services so there could be compliance tests for these connectors
Could have bronze, silver or gold levels contributors in the ecosystem.
Every Wednesday 8:00am to 9:00am US Eastern
