Requesting a Roll from Selected Tokens

marvin9257 edited this page May 5, 2023 · 2 revisions

Overview

This TWODSIX feature adds a button to the Foundry VTT Token Control menu so that the GM may request a roll of a specific type to all players with selected tokens. The roll settings are pre-selected by the GM, and the user just needs to click a button in chat message to make the particular roll. The chat message appears to only the players whose token(s) has been selected. If a selected token does not have an active player controlling it, the GM can make the requested roll. Only GM's can see this token control button.

How to Use

  1. Select the tokens to roll from the active scene.
  2. Press the request roll button.

  1. As the GM, select the appropriate roll parameters.
  • The first box, "Character Names" shows all names of the actors selected. Valid actor types are Travellers, Animals, and Robots. The GM can unselect any actors before submitting the request.
  • The second box defines the roll parameters, similar to any other roll in TWODSIX. By changing the Mode, the GM can control what part of the results are public. These modes are the standard Foundry VTT modes. For example, a "GM Blind" roll sends the roll results only to the GM and not to the players (even the one making the roll). See https://foundryvtt.com/article/dice/ for more detail of these roll types.
  1. Select the roll modifiers. Here the GM selects the specifics of the roll.
  • The Skill Name box allows the GM to optionally select a skill name from a consolidated list of all the skills from the selected tokens. If none of those skills are desired for the roll, select Untrained. Note that the roll will default to Untrained if a selected actor does not have that skill. "---" is for no skill to be used.
  • The second box defines the characteristic to be used. If a skill is selected, this will override the skill's default characteristic setting. Choosing "---" is for no characteristic modifier to be used. If a skill is selected but the characteristic is set to "---", the skill's default characteristic modifier will be used for the roll.
  • The other modifier box is for custom/situational DM's
  • Note that if a skill is not selected but a characteristic is selected, the roll will be a characteristic check. If neither a skill nor a characteristic is selected, the roll will be a straight, 2d6 roll.
  1. Click the request a roll button.
  2. A whispered message will appear only to those players (and the GM) who are active and where the GM selected their token from the active scene.

  1. The player simply needs to press the dice button on the chat message to make the requested roll. This will make the roll for all their controlled actors that were selected. No need to press the button multiple times. Which players (or GM) owns an actor is determined at the time the GM requests the roll. So if actor/token ownership has changed, the request should be resent. Note that the players don't see a pop-up allowing them to set any of the roll parameters; and depending on the Roll mode, they may or may not see a chat message with the results of their roll.
