Welcome to SXS!

This wiki aims to provide new members at all stages useful resources and advice. Please find the categories below that are useful to you:

I am just getting started in SXS ...

One of the very first things you should do is obtain a black-holes.org email account. You will need this to join SXS meetings and use the SXS Slack. Email Larry Kidder in order to obtain one.

Once you have your email, you should join the SXS Slack, which will put you in touch with most of the researchers in SXS. You can also find the researchers in the SXS Personnel Directory.

We have many weekly telecons, so it is useful to check out the SXS Meetings.

To use and contribute to SXS codes, you will need to join the SXS Github group.

If you would like to use SXS computing resources such as mbot or Caltech HPC, see the computing resources page.

I want to learn about ...

I want to use or help develop ...

  • Projects wiki: We have a separate private wiki for tracking what projects are/were in progress
  • The SXS Catalog of binary waveforms
  • SpEC for simulating spacetimes (including merging BH and NS)
  • SpECTRE for simulating spacetimes (presently in development!)
  • BFI for easily running many NR simulations.
  • SimulationAnnex for accessing NR simulations.
  • scri for analyzing waveforms
  • Paraview for visualizing simulations
  • qnm for computing quasi-normal modes
  • Surrogate models to quickly produce gravitational waveforms
  • ColorMaps for ParaView and matplotlib that are perceptually uniform, colorblind friendly, and grey scale friendly.

I want to meet up with other SXS people ...

I have a concern within SXS ...

I want advice ...

Please contribute to this wiki, or contact the #general Slack channel with suggestions! Note that we do have an older SXS wiki which may have some additional information from past years -- feel free to move any relevant info you find to this wiki!
