Installation

You have two options:

  1. Lazy layout: more buttons visible on your objects window, but less clicking (on the left).

  2. Compact layout: Fast Track functions are visible after clicking the 'Fast Track' button. Adds once click and a tiny delay to each task, but results in a more compact layout (on the right).

To Install

  1. Download the folder containing the required scripts. The simplest way is to go to this page, click on the green button (blue arrow) and then select 'Download ZIP' (red arrow). This will download a file called "FastTrack-master.zip" to your computer.

  1. Extract the 'Fast Track' folder from the zip file. Place the Fast Track folder wherever you want it to be, but in a permanent location. Run the Praat script called "setup_compact.praat" or "setup_lazy.praat" found in the 'Fast Track/functions/utils/' folder.

  2. Running a 'setup' script will add buttons that call Fast Track functions to the bottom of your Praat object window. You may not see them appear until you select an appropriate Praat object (e.g. a Sound object).

  3. To change layouts, or if you move the script files, simply run the setup script again.

Installation makes links from buttons in Praat to the script files on your hard drive. This has one big weakness and one big strength:

  • This means that if the files move the links break and the functions won't work anymore.

  • On the plus side, updating the package is as simple as replacing the script files. As long as the file names don't change the updated functions will work immediately.
