General tips

Aesthetic is the general look/feel of your level, model, scene or overall game.

Minimalist aesthetic works on so many levels.

Minimalism is a good style to adopt for independent game developers.

Architect Tadao_Ando is good source of minimalistic inspiration.

Muscle memory is very important and isn’t talked about much in computer science courses. Practice makes perfect.

Always be aware of poly count. Background objects should be super low poly as they are not the focus of the gameplay.

The less “normal” things are, the better they become. For example, make sure all cubes are different sizes if making an abstract ball of cube shapes.
