Skeletron

Skeletron is a script that takes complicated roads from OSM and simplifies them for improved label rendering. See maps.stamen.com/terrain for an example. It helps the road labels look their best at medium zoom levels where OSM data is too detailed. It takes us approximately 1-2 days to run all major roads in US up to zoom=15 on a decent sized machine.
