Modelworks Decision-Making Protocol

1. Define Decision Scope

  • Objective: Clearly state the decision to be made.

2. Identify Decision-Makers

  • Responsible: Project Manager
  • Consulted: Tutor, stakeholder
  • Informed: All team members and stakeholders

3. Establish Decision Criteria

  • Criteria might include, for example:
    • Cost
    • Time
    • Risk
    • Quality
    • Stakeholder satisfaction
    • Compliance

4. Gather Relevant Data

  • Collect data such as:
    • Budget constraints
    • Resource availability
    • Risk assessments
    • Expert input

5. Generate and Evaluate Options

  • List possible alternatives and assess each option using a weighted decision matrix (see sample below).

6. Facilitate Discussion and Consensus

  • Organize a decision meeting
  • Discuss pros/cons of each option
  • Use voting, ranking, or consensus methods

7. Make the Decision

  • Finalize based on evaluation and team input
  • Document the rationale and final choice

8. Communicate the Decision

  • Notify all stakeholders of:
