motor reaches full speed before 100% throttle

Hey,

Just having some issue with inav and 100% throttle.

My motor is reaching it’s maximum speed at about 40% manual throttle input in the outputs tab of inav

same when using the radio

It’s an analog esc and I’ve calibrated it but hasn’t fixed the issue.

Is this actually a problem or should I just change the scaling on my receiver

"Input on the outputs tab" is unclear to me.

Can you please clarify input vs output. What do you see on the Receiver tab?

It sounds like the motor is running unloaded, no prop or other load?

If so, we would expect maximum RPM to occur at about half power throttle. Here's why:

A motor and a generator are constructed the same way. You can use a motor as a generator, a spinning motor produces voltage. It produces that voltage in the opposite direction than it would spin if powered by the same voltage. Your motor is in fact spinning, so it's acting as a generator. If you're putting 12V in, it is producing about 12V going the other direction. Which means net about 0V and no torque, just a lot of spinning. If it went any faster, it would produce more than -12V so there would be negative power draw and that can't happen. So it doesn't go any faster.

Yeah it’s running unloaded but does the same thing with the prop on

The ESC can't be calibrated properly. The FC is outputting 1400 or so and the motor is at max speed = ESC not calibrated.

What does it do if you connect it directly to a receiver with no FC, does the motor work correctly then ?

I don't have a receiver that can do that unfortunately, when I calibrate it It makes the calibrating sounds as expected but then just doesn't change. I think I'm just going to get a new esc bl heli can't even read the firmware on the esc

One trick is to calibrate the esc using the Configurator output tab. Connect FC and set motor to max then connect flight battery which should let you calibrate the esc from the definite max to min ppm values. Using the transmitter may not give the full max min output from the FC.

yeah I’ve done that method as well….

I tried to reflash the firmware using BLheli, worked out it was running the og version and uhhh yeah it no longer turns on or beeps at all haha I bricked it.

So yeah new esc time for me that’s made within the last 12 years.
