The Biome view displays a color-coded view of the biome of the cells in your map. Biomes are calculated using temperature and rain values while also being dependent on both how close a cell is to a water source and the altitude of the cell and also if a mountain range is covering it.
(Note: this is very possible to change in later updates.)
Desert, Grassland, Forest, Rainforest (Dependent on Rain)
Taiga, Glacier, Desertic/Tundra, Ocean (Dependent on Altitude)
The Coastlines view displays coastlines of land and to some degree the altitude of oceans. Utilizing this view allows people to accurately see where oceans end and where land begins.
The Elevation view allows you to accurately see the altitude of areas by utilizing brighter shades of yellow.
