EDCHAR: The single-character text editor Edchar is a full-featured text editor in a world where displays are only 1 character tall and 1 character wide. Building: make edchar Usage: ./edchar [FILENAME] runs edchar. Optionally edits the new or existing file FILENAME. Using edchar is somewhat similar to using vi, in that the user will move from mode to mode with 1-character commands. Edchar will display a prompt to inform the user what it expects. The prompts are: > The user should input 1 character. This is the prompt in normal mode, insert mode, and replace mode. $ Insert a string and then press enter. This is the prompt in Insert or Replace mode. # Insert a positive integer and then press enter. This is the prompt when edchar needs the user to specify a length. Anything else: edchar is printing a message. Press any key to progress to the next character. When edchar is done with a message, it will present a prompt. Errors usually start and end with "!". Edchar will acknowledge things with "K". When in normal mode, the user is expected to input a command. The commands are: Command Argument Description q Quits e $ Opens new or existing file $ for editing. f Prints name of currently open file w Writes to currently open file W $ Writes to file specified by $ g Prints character currently under the cursor to screen G # Prints the character under the cursor and the next # - 1 characters p Prints entire file r > Replace character under the cursor with > R $ Replace characters from cursor position until the end of the string $ i > Insert a character > at cursor I $ Insert string $ at cursor a > Append > after cursor A $ Append string $ after cursor d Delete character under cursor D # Deletes # characters from cursor forward h Move cursor 1 character left l Move cursor 1 character right c Print current cursor position # Move cursor to line specified by # ?
