Here, are some tips on setting up development environment and debugging tips.

I use the following vim plugins to make my development easier:

exuberant-ctags: http://ctags.sourceforge.net/. Easiest install for exuberant-ctags is through apt-get on Debian based linux's
taglist plugin: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=273
TagHighlight: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2646
Tmux: http://tmux.sourceforge.net/. Easiest install is through apt-get as well.
gdb for debugging.
