# A Brief History of Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov (1920–1992) was a Russian-born American writer, biochemist, and one of the most influential figures in science fiction. Born in Petrovichi, Russia, he immigrated with his family to the United States as a child and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University and later taught biochemistry at Boston University.

Asimov began publishing science fiction stories in the late 1930s and became closely associated with the Golden Age of Science Fiction. He is best known for the *Foundation* series, the *Robot* stories, and the *Galactic Empire* novels. His robot stories introduced the famous Three Laws of Robotics, which shaped later thinking about artificial intelligence and machine ethics.

Beyond fiction, Asimov was a prolific popular science writer who authored or edited hundreds of books on topics ranging from astronomy and biology to history and literature. His clear explanatory style helped make complex scientific ideas accessible to general readers. By the time of his death in 1992, Asimov had become a defining voice in twentieth-century science fiction and science communication.
