Password tips

Sometimes thinking of a strong password is hard, here are some tips to follow.

General

• Passwords should be at least 12 character long but more is better!
• Don't use words even if you use "@" instead of "a" as that is obvious and is checked for
• Always include numbers and symbols
• Always use 2FA if possible

Tools

When you have lots of passwords to remember it can be quite hard to remember them all, this is where password managers come in, these help you remember all your passwords but do make you very vulnerable if your password manager somehow gets compromised. Which is why it's important to make a really secure password for you password manager.

    • Passwords are available on all of your devices
    • Has a password generator that rates the security of the password
    • Lots of user and a has a very good reputation
    • Passwords are decrypted client-side
    • 2FA is available
  • Cons
    • Encrypted passwords are stored on Lastpass' servers
    • All passwords can be decrypted with your master password (although there is 2FA)
• Keepass
  • Pros
    • Free
    • Open Source
    • Passwords are managed solely by your computer
    • Password vault can be uploaded to dropbox to share across devices
    • Generate random passwords
  • Cons
    • Not super simple
    • A bit of work to setup on all devices and browsers
