Welcome to the Inter Work Wiki

This wiki aims to keep track of goals and a visual system that is being created. Alongside the Inter Work Website, this should act as a reference for designers and developers.

Purpose of the Inter Work Typeface

The Inter Work Font Family is being made available through the GNU General Public License v3.0 which is similar to the SIL Open Font License, under which the original Inter Font Family is published. A key principle while designing the uppercase glyphs is the idea, that the font adapts constantly to its surroundings. We came up with this concept while designing the Visual and Corporate Identity of our Bachelor Thesis Freiräume. The project transforms unused retail floorspace into Creative & Co-Working Spaces.

Our service acts as a vital link between start-ups and corporate / city partners. As part of our Service Design Plan, we are aiming to connect the public with an innovative new generation that sees self-employed work as a viable option. We're trying to make local, circular economy reality.

A Dynamic Visual Language

While the concept can be transported to other medium-sized cities with similar issues and opportunities, it was important for us to also transport this message visually: We make use of the available space, and so should our visual identity. The Typeface adds distorted glyphs of uppercase letters, which are transformed to shorter and longer lengths. As the height of different rooms pretty much stay the same, the Typeface does not make use of vertical transformations in scale or shape. Added glyphs are provided in 3 sets of Stylistic & Contextual Alternatives.

Editing the source file

The source file .bf can be edited using BirdFont.

In future, we would like to provide additional file formats which are compatible with Glyphs. Follow along our GitHub Project for updates.

Installing

You may download a copy of the distributed font files, located in ./dist/. Please read the terms of the before mentioned GNU License. You may not redistribute or resell copies of the typeface as a solitary product.

In order to provide the additional glyphs as stylistic alternatives, it is recommended to download the .otf-Open Type version of the font. TTF-Files do not offer this feature, you will find the modified characters at the end of the glyph list.

If you would like to use Inter Work Typeface commercially, please contact @superextinct at [email protected]

Further Information

You can find further information about the Inter Work Font Family on our website or about our Project Freiräume here.

Acknowledgments

We would really like to thank Rasmus Andersson for his work and publishing the Inter Font Family as Open Source property. Additionally, we would also like to thank Johan Mattsson for creating Birdfont

Personally, we fell in love with type even more while making this. ❤️
