DMXOPL v2.3 WOPL version (ADLMIDI ONLY)

Due to some issues with the op2 format that I'm having, I'm releasing a version of the DMXOPL patch in WOPL format, for ADLMIDI players. This will also be the reference format of choice, and I will export this format to DMX format on releases.

This is NOT for DMX or Doom. I know this is a bit of a departure from what I usually do!

I'm not too sure how this will work in ADLMIDI, I haven't tried it in ADLMIDI (only the op2).

Another thing of note, I've noticed some players have re-implemented the "DMX phase" detune thing, that I don't think is in v1.9 of DMX, and it wrecks my cymbals. If you could make an exception for this for the time being for my bank that'd be great.

Okay so these files:

  • GENMIDI.op2 -- this is broken in DMX, but works in ADLMIDI "right now".
  • GENMIDI.wopl -- This is Wohlstand's reference format.

ADLRAW doesn't work, no detuning support, so that's a fail.

Changes in this "Release":

  • All cymbals were tweaked. ALL of them.

This release replaces a lot of Paul Radek holdovers/tweaks I had done, with their own patches. Further mixing and timbre work was done.

Changes in this release:

  • I added some more harmonics to the bright piano, and made all pianos a little quieter.
  • Cor Anglais (English horn) Now matches Formants of a horn played by an actual person
  • Side stick percussion improved
  • Timbales match real ones
  • Vibraslap sounds better
  • Alto, Tenor and Baritone Sax improved
  • Clarinet improved
  • Bassoon improved, one of the last Paul Radek Patches to be replaced
  • Koto Redone for Shadow Warrior midis
  • Tremolo strings redone, but still not to my liking. May not be able to do anything about this.
  • Acoustic Bass redone, another Paul Radek patch gone
  • Gunshot redone, another Paul Radek Patch gone. Matches the sound of the Duck Hunt "Zapper" fire
  • Synth Bass 1 tweaked, another Paul Radek patch gone - Matches SC-55

I promised, and here it is - the first OPL3 version! The OPL2 version is also available.
The GENMIDI.op2 included is the OPL3 version.

These voices were modified to use OPL3 waveforms:

  • Snare drums
  • All Keyboards
  • Slap Basses
  • Toms
  • Square Wave
  • Timpani
  • Brass Section
  • Nylon and Steel guitars
  • Clarinet
  • Viols
  • Chiffer

And of course, various mixing fixes here and there.

If you want to use this - please note that this is another version, but the previous version is still supported if there are any major issues found with it.

Welp, v1.11 is finally here, and is likely the last release of DMXOPL, as I'll be forking this to another project for OPL3 chips only. As this patch uses only OPL2 waveforms, and I'm happy enough with it now, this will be the final version - unless someone finds a nasty bug or two.

Changes in this release:

  • Steel Drums are better (Thanks pcorf)
  • Honky-Tonk Piano redone
  • Accordion Redone
  • Harmonica Redone
  • Recorder tweaked to sound less like a clarinet in normal range
  • Various misc mixing fixes I forgot.

Only one original Paul Radek instrument remains - Gunshot. I felt as if MAP31 deserved to have the original DMX sound for the soldiers. No other IWAD MIDI uses it.

Feel free to use this in your projects!

Pre-release

Other than the Piano change to something less awful (why did I even like that patch?!), and the Trumpet patch redone, most changes are to volumes of patches.

Changes in this release:

  • Piano is back to something that sounds like a piano. Whoops.
  • Tremolo Strings reduced in volume
  • Synth String 1 reduced in volume (Heretic is still loud though)
  • Trumpet sounds more like one (Cid's Theme)
  • Choir Aahs reduced in volume
  • Electric Grand was way too loud, fixed
  • Dulcimer made softer
  • Echo Drops made softer

NOTE: If you are using this in your projects, or apps, please use this one. This pre-release is to fix the sound splattering issues.
