Meeting Notes

13 September, 2018

We made a quick pass through issues for this milestone; made sure that Amanda wasn't assigned on anything that someone else could do.

Rest of meeting was work session on issues for this milestone.

6 September, 2018

Laura:

  • issue with Events
  • ordering issue
  • things that are coming up next list first
  • need to have the past list look like events list on the new site--in order

Jeremy--solutions

  • what is the moment we want to display a future event?
  • what is the moment we want to display a past event?

Laura--just wants them to sort into date order, with events coming just after current date showing top of the list

Jeremy--separate future events from past events

  • display current events first
  • needs to investigate options for doing this

Laura--does want to be able to preload future events well in advance without them "scooping" current events

Jeremy estimates about 4 hours work

Laura:

  • newsletter signup
  • wants to have a form that collects just a bit more info: Name, email, uva affiliated y/n, department

Jeremy--will look at it with Laura

  • estimates a couple of hours to resolve

Jeremy:

  • improve logo placement/sizing

Brandon--look at the pull request for this

Jeremy--has used svg before and change colors

  • estimate 30 minutes (included in 1 day below)

Laura:

  • issue with more... menu
  • lots of content under this menu
  • how they're revealed isn't working well right now

Brandon--we never really decided what actually goes in that menu; how to do

Laura--just need to decide what goes on the top level navigation, what is internal navigation

Jeremy--we need a meeting to talk about adding additional navigation; either flat as is, or adding more is fine

Alison--need to see People sooner in the list, especially seeing history of people/network of people

Jeremy--have to scroll all the way to the bottom to even see the alumni, need to figure out how to get people

  • estimate 30 minutes for convo

  • work estimate will follow

  • Jeremy: review all pages for similar navigation issues as the People pages

  • Jeremy requests that Laura make a list of what should be on top menu; how to nest/gather up menu items

Laura: will mockup things and pass around for comment

  • due date: Sept 13

  • Jeremy: let's make it live at the end of the month

  • Amanda: and if we have to blog about why it's broken, that's fine

  • Jeremy: library logo

  • should be on the front page

  • all agree

  • estimate 1 day

  • Jeremy: search

  • only searched blog posts

  • static pages should be indexed and searchable

  • will speak to zoe about

  • Jeremy: review assets for compression needs

  • Jeremy: performance testing

Ronda: schedule that?

Jeremy: we can just wait for Wayne to contact us

Brandon:

  • hosting site: none of the blog posts appear live bc of a gem we're using that github doesn't allow

Jeremy--pagination gem; doesn't like this and doesn't think it's worthwhile, rather just have a long page of all the posts

Brandon--10 most recent, then everything else

Jeremy--wants to host it on our server, for faster and more reliable

  • deploy on corgi
  • remove pagination gem
  • needs to work with Ammon and Shane re: deploying from virtual servers

Jeremy:

  • editorial process needs to be formalized

Ronda--needs another meeting

  • people in current meeting? yes.
  • 30 minutes

Laura:

  • photos
  • we have a boatload of gorgeous photos
  • would inserting them into pages be difficult? break the site?

Jeremy--suggests that she note pictures that she'd like to have on each page; then meet with him to talk about how big/where she wants them to go

Laura--only goal is add more pictures; doesn't want to make it difficult

Jeremy--we should talk

Ronda:

  • project/work page ordered by name of page, which puts Unite the Right rally at the top

Jeremy--can sort by slug

  • Amanda: working to get spatial projects onto page before release to make sure they're represented.

Brandon:

  • need additional placeholder images for people

Laura will assign Beth to identify from Shane's portfolio

Jeremy:

  • issues that are on pre-release that are labeled content and unassigned

Brandon:

  • downloading and moving things off wordpress (issue #12 on github); cascades down to other stuff

Jeremy--hosting on corgi will help with this

Jeremy:

  • after launch, schedule monthly meeting to review issues, keep on top of site issues/updates
