I wrote a more detailed issue template to help users who aren't familiar with open source software bug trackers. It's on my fork's default branch just because I wanted to see what it looks like in the editor.

Only after writing most of it did I learn about GitHub's fancy new YAML-specified issue forms which could be a fitting alternative.

Other possible changes in the same interest:

  • Remove the analysis question issue template
  • In the existing bug report template, replace the reference to the analysis question issue template with a link to the community discussion page

@dcollins15 I implemented the changes mentioned in my comment. You can see what the template chooser looks like now on my fork.

I completely agree that our issue template are in need of an update—making this easier to adjust was one of the motivations for changing the repo's default branch to main.

I really like the more detailed bug report form but I think the YAML forms are probably the best way to implement it—I'm going to go ahead and close this in favor of:

I rebased your commits onto main and then took things from there. If you're able to take a quick peak, I'm open to any feedback you'd like to provide 🙂
