Menagerist

(meh-NAH-juh-rist)

A lightweight, self-hostable personal knowledge graph for collectors.

What Menagerist Does

  • Model anything as a node — people, items, gigs, bands, films, venues, or your own custom types
  • Connect nodes with edges — signed by, performed at, obtained at, member of, or any relationship you define
  • Traverse your collection as a graph — find everything connected to a person, a gig, or a franchise
  • Enrich nodes automatically from TMDB and MusicBrainz
  • Upload photos for items, signatures, and moments
  • Query across your collection with user-defined filters and traversals
  • Runs easily in Docker — your data, your server

Why Menagerist?

Menagerist is inspired by the idea of a menagerie — a carefully curated collection. It's built on the idea that the most valuable thing about a collection isn't the items themselves, but the connections between them.

A subtle nod to Star Trek: The Original Series – The Menagerie.

A signed single isn't just an object — it was signed by someone, at a specific gig, in a specific year. Menagerist keeps that context alive, linking people, places, moments, and things into a graph that tells the real story of your collection.
