Looks like creating a PAT is the recommended workaround from Github. Sorry I should have included this in the original PR.

Also just FYI, the RGBLedMatrixOptions struct (and possibly others) changed in hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix@ac05820 so the FFI struct will have to be updated to match the memory layout.
