Install tools

This assumes you have NPM and Node installed.

• If not download NVM.

As a conveniece the Linux commands for installing NVM/Node are provided. If you're using another OS please see the link above.

• Install pnpm

curl -fsSL https://get.pnpm.io/install.sh | env PNPM_VERSION=10.0.0 sh -
source ~/.bashrc

• Install jest

pnpm i -g jest

• Install ts-node and typeorm globally for development

pnpm i -g ts-node typeorm

• Install postgres

sudo pacman -Syyu postgresql --noconfirm

• Configure postgres

sudo -u postgres initdb -D /var/lib/postgres/data
# Input password test
sudo systemctl start postgresql.service
sudo systemctl enable postgresql.service
sudo -u postgres createuser -P -s test # password: test
sudo -u postgres createdb gsn

Clone the repo

# Clones to current directory `pwd`
git clone https://github.com/riivanov/generic-social-network.git
cd ./generic-social-network

To run the server

• Install dependencies in node_modules and run the server

pnpm i
pnpm run server

Migrations

Generate migrations

cd ./src/server
rm -rf ../lib/entity/User.{js,js.map,d.ts} && typeorm-ts-node-commonjs migration:generate ./migrations/<name> -d ./src/data-source.ts

To run migrations for the DB in the server directory

typeorm-ts-node-commonjs migration:run -d ./src/data-source.ts

To run the client

• In a seperate terminal run the front-end

pnpm run client
