Conflused-updater

Shell scripts to backup and update Atlassian JIRA and Confluence instances. Currently only instances running on Linux and using PostgreSQL database are supported.

JIRA

JIRA, JIRA Software and JIRA Servicedesk installations supported.

  • Copy jira/config.sh.sample to jira.config
  • Edit jira.config to match your setup
  • Create current symlink to JIRA_PATH if not already set
    • Fix directory path(s) to init scripts also
  • Run jira/update_jira.sh jira.config as root or normal user
  • Done

Confluence

  • Copy confluence/config.sh.sample to confluence.config
  • Edit confluence.config to match your setup
  • Create current symlink to CONFLUENCE_BASE if not already set
    • Fix init scripts also
  • Run confluence/update_confluence.sh confluence.config as root or normal user
  • Done

You can use environment variable CONFLUENCE_NEW_VERSION to define version to update to. CONFLUENCE_NEW_VERSION value must be existing version number, for example "6.13.10".

Bitbucket

Minimum supported version is 5.x+

Usage:

  • Copy bitbucket/config.sh.sample to bitbucket.config
  • Edit bitbucket.config to match your setup
  • Create current symlink to BITBUCKET_BASE if not already set
    • Fix directory path(s) to init scripts / unit files also
  • Run bitbucket/update_bitbucket.sh bitbucket.config as root or normal user
  • Done

Migration guide from 4.x+:

  • Migrate your server.xml
  • Create set-jre-home.sh to your old installation bin-folder
    • See version 5.x+ files for a sample in <extract_dir>/bin/
  • Create set-bitbucket-home.sh to your old installation bin-folder
    • See version 5.x+ files for a sample in <extract_dir>/bin/
  • Create set-bitbucket-user.sh to your old installation bin-folder
    • See version 5.x+ files for a sample in <extract_dir>/bin/

Bamboo

The updater looks for BAMBOO_HOME from atlassian-bamboo/WEB-INF/classes/bamboo-init.properties. Migrate your HOME var there if it isn't already

  • Copy bamboo/config.sh.sample to bamboo.config
  • Edit bamboo.config to match your setup
  • Create current symlink to BAMBOO_PATH if not already set
    • Fix directory path(s) to init scripts / unit files also
  • Run bamboo/update_bamboo.sh bamboo.config as root or normal user
  • Done

Directory structure

Script requires that every application is installed in separate subdirectory, later called APPLICATION_BASE. APPLICATION_BASE directory contains application installation directories, a "current" symlink to newest version directory and a configuration file for this updater tool.

APPLICATION_BASE
APPLICATION_BASE/application-x.y
APPLICATION_BASE/application-x.z
APPLICATION_BASE/current -> APPLICATION_BASE/application-x.z
APPLICATION_BASE/application.config

Replace "application" in "application.config" with application name. For example jira.config.

Restore

In case something goes wrong, restore backups from A BACKUP_DIR. The BACKUP_DIR defaults to a APPLICATION_BASE/backup directory. Application-data directory contains application-data files and binary directory contains sql dumps.
