Schematic and Board Layers

Schematic Layers

Layers on the schemtic don't really matter too much. Turn all of them on so you can see everything.

Board Layers

Copper:

1 Top - Top layer of copper for routing and planes

16 Bottom - Bottom layer of copper for routing and planes

Connections

17 Pads - Exposed copper of Top and Bottom layers for component mounting

18 Vias - Selectively copper plated holes that connect layers together

19 Unrouted - Unrouted components on the board

Outline + Silkscreen

20 Dimension - Border of the board

21,22 t/b Place - Where all silkscreen can go

23,24 t/b Origins - The anchor for all parts

25,26 t/b Names - Names of components

27,28 t/b Values - Values of components

29,30 t/b Stop - Areas that should not overlap with other parts

Physical Boundaries

31,32 t/b Cream - Areas where surface mount solder can go

39,40 t/b Keepout - Areas where there should not be anything to account for the real life size of components/mounting

44,45 Drills / Holes - Drills or Holes that go through the board

46 Milling - Special shapes to mill out of the board

Documentation

51,52 t/b Docu - Lines serving for documentation purposes only; will not show up on the final board
