📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Some rotated images may still shift during loading, and the migration may briefly block prompt reads and writes. Both issues are bounded but worth addressing before deployment. Pre-merge checks |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The dimension backfill reads the wrong pixel dimensions for EXIF-rotated images.
Line 217 uses sharp(imageBuffer).metadata(). This returns the stored width and height, before EXIF rotation. For images with EXIF orientation 5 to 8, the browser displays the image swapped. The stored image_width and image_height then have the wrong aspect ratio. The width/height attributes then reserve the wrong space, and CLS persists for those rows.
Swap the values when meta.orientation >= 5.
Proposed fix
- const width = meta.width;
- const height = meta.height;
+ const swap = (meta.orientation ?? 1) >= 5;
+ const width = swap ? meta.height : meta.width;
+ const height = swap ? meta.width : meta.height;Also, processBucket can overwrite an image with a resized version in --apply mode. backfillPromptDimensions runs after it. It then reads the resized image, so the dimensions match the stored file. The order is correct. Keep it.

PostgreSQL official documentation ALTER TABLE ADD CHECK NOT VALID VALIDATE CONSTRAINT lock level concurrent writes
💡 Result:
For a **`CHECK` constraint**, PostgreSQL’s documented low-impact pattern is:
```sql
ALTER TABLE my_table
ADD CONSTRAINT my_check CHECK (condition) NOT VALID;
ALTER TABLE my_table
VALIDATE CONSTRAINT my_check;
```
- **`ADD ... NOT VALID`** skips checking existing rows, but the check is enforced for subsequent inserts and updates. For a regular table, adding most constraints—including `CHECK`—requires an **`ACCESS EXCLUSIVE`** lock. The short add step avoids the potentially lengthy table scan, but acquiring that lock can still briefly block reads and writes. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/17/sql-altertable.html?utm_source=openai))
- **`VALIDATE CONSTRAINT`** scans existing rows and takes a **`SHARE UPDATE EXCLUSIVE`** lock. PostgreSQL says this validation does **not** lock out concurrent updates, so normal writes can continue while the scan runs. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/17/sql-altertable.html?utm_source=openai))
In short: this avoids blocking concurrent writes for the duration of a full-table validation scan, but it does **not** make the initial `ADD CONSTRAINT` lock-free.

Defer constraint validation to a follow-up migration.
ADD CONSTRAINT ... CHECK scans existing rows while holding ACCESS EXCLUSIVE. NOT VALID skips that scan. However, validating before the current transaction commits would retain the existing ACCESS EXCLUSIVE lock for the validation scan. Run validation in a separate migration, where PostgreSQL can use SHARE UPDATE EXCLUSIVE and allow normal reads and writes.
The repository already uses NOT VALID with validation and handles check_violation without failing the migration. Preserve that behavior. The if not exists clauses also mean existing columns are not guaranteed to contain only NULL.
