About

This is my repository for my Data Visualization for Policy Analysis course. It will contain weekly homework and project assignments throughout the Fall quarter from September to December 2022.

Goal

To acquire data visualization 📊 📈 📉 skills that can be used to engage people with challenging public policy and social impact issues. I am interested in data story-telling from an accessible standpoint that can reach a variety of audiences.

Weekly Assignments

Week 1

• Data selfie: A hand-drawn introductory snapshot of me

• Intro to HTML and CSS: Frankenstein

Week 2

• JavaScript in-class tutorial

• Project #1: For my Dear Data project, I tracked the sounds 🔉🔔🔉 around me for 5 days and manually created a humanistic data visualization

Week 3

• D3.js in-class tutorial, my first bar chart

• Homework assignment: Library visits bar chart 📊 on Chicago library visits in January 2022

• Final Project Data: The data I scoped and pre-processed for my Final Project is on the characteristics of people living under moderate and extreme poverty in my homecountry, Ecuador. Further detail here

Week 4

• Horizontal bar chart next to the bar chart created in week 3

• Time series charts

  • Homework assignment: Line chart of Canada's monthly long-term interest rates in 2020
