Under Wayland, cursor theme and size are configured by the compositor instead

The problem is that, apparently, the situation is much more complex: lxqt/lxqt-wayland-session#1 (comment)

I see, but we have to consider also decorations from the compositor, so better setting it there, if I'm not mistaken.

It gives the impression that, once the cursor is set by the Wayland compositor, everything will be OK, while it won't.

I suggest we wait to see what will happen in Wayland and whether, at some point, the cursor could be set under it without problem.

Made some tests and it looks like at least under labwc if no theme and size are set it uses LXQt setting for the decorations (did not set GTK theme so gtk windows had the previuos cursor but the Qt cursor on the SSD decoration.
Will test the the other WM after.
