Project repository for Southwestern's Computer Science Capstone 2019 Volunteers group. This repo satisfies the requirements for our 2019 Senior Seminar in Software Engineering project. Our group members are Taylor Axtell, Sara Boyd, Lauren Gillespie, Danielle Orbach, and Colin Scruggs. Our capstone professor is Dr. Barbara Anthony
Voluntunity is an interactive website for finding volunteer opportunities in the Austin-Georgetown-San Marcos area that is targeted towards Southwestern University students and other Georgetown residents. Users can search for opportunities based on the type of volunteer opportunity and the location.
From the landing page, simply select the category or city where you're interested in volunteering. If you don't want to select a specific city or category, then leave the dropdown as "Any" and it'll select everything. Once you hit search, the results page will pull up with cards on the left displaying each organization and google maps on the right displaying the locations.
Check out our wiki for detailed instructions on how to spin up a local proxy of the site. Hopefully soon we'll have a public website you can navigate to instead.
Make sure you have Django and the Google Cloud SDK. There are detailed instructions for downloading and integrating both also on the wiki. Note: For the original capstone project, we developed this site using the GCP ecosystem, but for deployment, we are migrating to the AWS ecosystem. For more information on the migration, see this page on our wiki.
... we're getting there (eventually)

We'd also like to thank our partners, the Office of Community Engaged Learning staff, who have supported us along the way, in particular, Dr. Sarah Brackmann, Caroline Haywood, and Benjamin Belz. We'd also like to thank this site as inspiration for the vision of this project, and you the reader for making it this far in our readme. You're the real mvp👍.
