Testchain Testnet Mode

Testnets, or testchains, are test blockchain networks associated with popular blockchains. For example, Ethereum maintains 2: Sequoia and Goerli. They behave identically to their parent, mainnet chains.

The native tokens on these testnets are distinct from the ones used on the mainnets but behave the same. The most important difference about these testnet tokens is that they hold no value. These testnets have faucets to get testnet tokens for completely free.

Cobweb implements a testchain mode with the Goerli testnet, so you can try out Cobweb and learn to interact with the blockchain even without mainnet tokens of your own.

To enable it, click on your profile photo at the top right of each page, then open the 'Testchain Mode' dropdown.

You can click the toggle to enable Testchain mode. All your streams will then go through the Goerli testnet and send wrapped testnet tokens instead. Please restart the extension in chrome://extensions by clicking the reload cycle button to make sure the mode switch occurs. However, a check on testchain mode being enabled will automatically be done every 5 minutes, and will switch your Cobweb mode accordingly.

⚠️ Your MetaMask extension must also be set to the Goerli testnet. To do so, click the network selection dropdown, click 'Show test networks', and select Goerli.

⚠️ This also does not close any current streams being done on mainnet, so make sure they're closed before switching to testchain mode. Alternatively, go to app.superfluid.finance to close your streams.
