## zkRollups
A zkRollup is used to scale L1 blockchains. It is the technology responsible for making SNARKs so popular! In a zkRollup, we move the hard computation work off-chain, normally to much faster L2 chains, while the L1 stays in charge of simply verifying the work done by the L2.
