## Rigid Mélange Extent
The maximum extent of rigid mélange was measured at a monthly resolution, relative to the contemporaneous terminus position. The frontal position of the mélange was manually digitised from continuous ITS_LIVE 6-day (2018-2022) and 12-day (2022-2023) velocity pairs; this method assumes that a coherent velocity signal over the mélange is indicative of rigidity, as outlined by Chudley et al. (2023; https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-023-37764-7).

## Ocean Temperature
As part of NASA’s Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) project, four AXCTD probes were jetissoned into Ilulissat Icefjord during the study period, each deployed in either August or September (https://doi.org/10.5067/OMGEV-AXCT1). CTD data collected in Disko Bay was also employed, collected from ALAMO floats (https://doi.org/10.5067/OMGEV-ALMO1), APEX floats (https://doi.org/10.5067/OMGEV-APXF1) and as part of the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) programme (https://doi.org/10.17897/WH30-HT61).

## Air Temperature
Observations of daily surface air temperature were downloaded from the Ilulissat Mittarfik meteorological station (04221; https://www.dmi.dk/fileadmin/Rapporter/2023/DMIRep23-08.pdf). Data was sampled at a three-hour resolution, with monthly surface air temperature anomalies for 2018-2023 calculated relative to the 1992-2018 mean. Note that daily averages were only included if there were > 4 observations, and monthly averages were only included if there were > 25 daily mean observations.

## Surface Runoff
Daily estimates of surface runoff across the main hydrological basin of Jakobshavn Isbræ were extracted from Mankoff (2020), provided on the GEUS dataverse (https://doi.org/10.22008/promice/data/ice_discharge/d/v02). These estimates were derived from two regional climate models (RCMs): (i) Modèle Atmosphérique Régional (MAR), and (ii) Regional Atmospheric Climate Model (RACMO).
