Why EventSmash?

EventSmash is a event aggregator (clearinghouse) that associates events by place. Most calendars are date/time centric while EventSmash is place focused. The idea is not to own the data. EventSmash is intended to be used as a clearinghouse for event data - events are available for all users to mashup as they wish. We intended to make it easy to get data in and out to encourage users to add their data. Open up the event data. No more silos. ###How do we encourage this:

  • Anyone can create an event.
  • Get rid of the idea of a display calendar - view events by relation to your location.
  • Only users with accounts can edit or rate events.
  • All events are available to view (no hidden or private events).
  • Create your own events feed (registered users) that pulls events in certain categories for certain locals.
  • Use the API to push/pull events to your own website/app. No excuses.
  • No entering date ranges - an extra step that isn't needed.

Current Functionality

  • Add events and categorize them by time and place
  • Sign up for the application using Twitter, Facebook and/or Google
  • Geo-location - shows the events for today near you.
  • Toggle events by category and by date range.
  • View events in a list and map format.

##Future Functionality

*Only users with accounts can edit or rate events. *Push events into Facebook *Consume RSS feeds for importing data
