During map gen, it may seem like you have fewer biters than normal because biters are generated and placed before the maze canyon is placed. This causes them to disappear. With the right luck you might not see biters for 30-40 km.

This is evidenced by the fact that if you explore early you might see lone biters hanging out or running around, or worms doing likewise.

If it's possible biter nests should be controlled by the mod during generation to prevent this issue, and make the placement of biters more consistent.

This will be an option to control the placement of spawners and turrets at chunk generation. It will be on by default and be a map setting.
