Blog+CL 0.17.0: cover Font Awesome 7, the i18n wave, and the Docker drop - #2755
Merged
Conversation
- Adds the FA 7 breaking section: width-default flip as the consumer story; Sass-surface breakage framed as unsupported-usage, with the namespaced courtesy path and the silent config-globals trap - Routes the i18n wave (toggler labels, locale fills, tr/uk updates) as one combined changelog line + blog bullet - Adds a blog bullet for the Docker-support drop and a For-maintainers changelog line for the hugo-extended root-homing
- Regroups the Release summary under a Modernized-foundations theme (Dart Sass, FA 7, script pins), per the 3-4-theme-group register - Rewrites the description around the same theme; refreshes the blog md-output golden
Merges the Dart Sass, FA 7, and script-pins entries into one themed lead, returning the card to three items; the freed slot promotes the agent directive.
- Release summary: nests the install-command rename under Modernized foundations, ending the flat-ToC run (4 theme entries, 0.14.0 register) - Ready to upgrade: drops the no-Hugo-change news line; the version list already carries it, keeping every triage line an imperative
- Card: i18n (globe) replaces the experimental agent-directive entry, which stays in the summary, skim list, and its own section - Promotes the i18n bullet to an Other-notable-changes subsection (0.14.0 form), the card's link target; summary gains the matching theme line
…ther items Internationalization moves up to third, matching the Highlights order; the Other-notable entry's inline clause becomes a sublist.
Card, summary, and section now lead with completeness (every bundled locale defines the full UI-string set) instead of 'fully translatable' (unverified as a whole-UI claim) and gap-fill loss-framing; section gains the optional drop-redundant-entries note (0.14.0 precedent).
A single line echoed the card's sell; the map entry now nests the section's three items, in section order.
- FA actions: reclassifies bare literal fa-content() calls as silent pass-through; gates the font-name action on Font Awesome family overrides; covers the removed sr-only utility classes (verified: FA 6 shipped all four via the theme's compiled CSS, v7 ships none) - i18n: promotes the section to H2 (card-consistent), collapses the summary entry to one mapping line, and narrows claims to key-set coverage (toggler aria-labels remain English) - Docker bullet lead: 'Outdated Docker setup retired' (setup was never official) - Changelog: hugo-extended line goes conceptual, linking the canonical two-step procedure
Card and section claim translation-key coverage (Hugo's term; lang.Translate docs); the summary entry maps the section as a sublist, one item per named section item.
Pinning is a stability move, not modernization; the card capper drops its up-to-date-only claim for current-and-predictable. Golden refreshed for the description.
Explicit IDs kept: the generated IDs would otherwise change.
The capper carries current-and-predictable; the summary keeps the full modernized-and-strengthened name.
Drops per-item explanatory clauses; self-naming links carry no clause, and the details stay in the body sections.
UI strings and the drop-redundant-entries note route to the language guide (bundles, custom UI strings); the mode menu routes to its feature docs.
…on lede Also rehomes recurring spelling words to the project dictionary and drops stale per-file ignores.
- FA: cuts the name-only icon bullet (verified: 6.7.2 renders nothing there too, not a regression); scopes the compatibility claim to rendering; adds the AT-hidden-by-default action (v7 ships empty CSS alt text) and removed-mixin loud failures; maps the focusable sr-only helpers to visually-hidden-focusable - i18n: lede claims key coverage, not translated-across-the-board; cleanup gate reshaped to the post's Applies-if form; lightdark link retargeted to the mode-menu section - Nav surfaces: summary collapses i18n and Other to one clause each with For-maintainers as a peer entry; skim order matches body order
One clause undersold the three-story section; owner call, reversing review r2's collapse.
Content-placement rule: cite key issues; google#2279 is the migration tracker google#2724 closed. Audit find (coverage audit, 08-28).
… Mermaid check Site-upgrade simulation finds: the built-CSS diff is no longer serialization-only with FA 7 in the range (the recheck section's bullet trued too), and the Mermaid check applies only to Mermaid sites.
Restores the visually-unchanged qualifier with its rounding caveat, the rgb-vs-hex diff example, the thousands-of-lines scale, the Chroma file paths, and the Undefined-variable symptom; also fixes the reshape's prettier wrap.
…ample; scope the string-match gate - Example becomes a diff fence carrying the real full-precision built value (the rounded rgb(81.02%...) form appears in no build output) - Same-color claim stated as a bound (at most one rounding step in one channel), not 'unchanged' - Gate narrowed to tests/JavaScript with the concrete surfaces (snapshots, getPropertyValue reads); plain CSS hardcoding the old hex still renders the same color, so it's out
Site-dependent number; pervasiveness plus the diff example carry the a-big-diff-is-normal calibration.
Cuts the string-match gate (rare, self-diagnosing; its trace rides the lede as the re-capture clause); the lede now states the no-action verdict and hands off to the one real action, the Chroma gate, which gains its docs link.
Reorders the subsections to Expected CSS changes, No LibSass fallback, Actions -- the house pattern (semantic classes, FA 7, install command all close with Actions); the Chroma gate relocates into Actions with a BREAKING badge, and the recheck lede's forward reference drops.
Two-sentence warning closing the know-block: no LibSass path (sass: modules + if()), and BSD-class platforms stay on 0.16 until Dart Sass pure-JS embedded mode ships. Drops the head-css trap sentence (an unstyled site is visually loud, and the why-hopeless sentence already answers the reader who would try it) and the unlinked anchor.
- FA a11y action split per upstream: label the interactive element for icon-only controls; aria-label + role=img on the icon for semantic inline icons - Webfont action drops the false .woff claim (FA 6.7.2 shipped ttf+woff2 only; verified against the package listing) - CSS sanity check names the breadcrumb-class delta and scopes investigation to unexplained differences - Recheck lede widens to string-matching tests or code (reconciles the cut gate with the review's runtime-JS case)
- Scopes the icon-compatibility claim and adds the vector-square Free-drop bullet (v6 Free's only removed icon; successor is Pro-only) - Adds the layout-helpers logical-properties bullet (fa-pull-*, fa-ul/fa-li follow text direction; RTL compensation double-corrects) - Sass sanity check goes install-mode aware: npm exec --no for npm sites, whose shell lacks the CLI - 'ARIA-mandated' -> standard attribute (WAI makes it optional on non-link current items); pack-time lifecycle hooks scoped out of the hooks-are-gone claim
- Install-command actions cover wired automation: package scripts/CI invoking the old command (the 0.16 setup guide's own _prepare:docsy pattern), and GitHub-npm reruns after every clean install - FA family gate broadens to hardcoded v6 family names in project CSS/Sass (v7 registers no v6 @font-face) - Drops borders from the logical-properties bullet (fa-border changes geometry, not positioning; the borders mention was review-churn) - Sass sanity check asserts the 1.95.0 floor and probes node_modules/.bin directly (npm exec can satisfy from the npx cache)

Compare
Parentheses for the paired asides, colons for example lists, a sentence split where a colon already claimed the sentence; re-anchors the width-flip aside to the design it glosses.
The i18n lede stops restating its own bullets; the cleanup action drops the implied complement; the sass check un-fragments its per-mode clauses.
The rename is stated in the section intro, and npm's error self-diagnoses.
- Moves the no-LibSass warning into the Actions section, so the update docs' and Upgrade section's #dart-sass-actions jump paths can't bypass it; the why-now paragraph sheds the pure-JS detail it duplicated (one home: the warning) and closes consumer-framed - Splits the FA family gate: the theme variable takes the v7 form of its own family (Brands there would break Docsy's solid pseudo-elements); hardcoded project font-family takes the matching v7 family - Retargets the setup-guide link to its For-an-existing-site section; swaps two summary entries into body order; cuts the semantic-classes title stutter and the FA alignment aside; recheck lede separates tooling expectations from code comparisons
- i18n cleanup action restores the keep-intentional-wording boundary (the lean cut made it a delete-everything instruction) - FA intro claims source-level resolution, not unchanged rendering (the next paragraph owns the visual deltas) - Rounding bound restated per channel (the example's serialized values differ fractionally in two) - Sanity checks gain the gated multilingual mode-menu item - Changelog i18n entry cites key issue google#1987 for the mode-menu change
