Patch for pkg.conf.5 that describes how to change quarterly to latest

I was looking for information about "quarterly" vs "latest" and found the
documentation lacking this part.

The information belongs in the man page for pkg.conf as it contains all the
relevant other information, with the only exception in the details for
"quarterly" and "latest".

What's wrong with this?

Sorry it took time. I am puzzled about this one as usual in such cases, pkg is not FreeBSD specific and this rule the quarterly vs latest branching thing is a FreeBSD only concept. I don't know if it should be documented or not directly in pkg. I see the point in documenting it better anyway and why one would want to document it withing the pkg manpages.

No problem, better late than never :)

What do you mean by pkg not being FreeBSD specific?

… What do you mean by pkg not being FreeBSD specific?

https://github.com/freebsd/pkg#readme describes Known to fully work … and Known to work … use cases, not limited to FreeBSD.

… I was looking for information about "quarterly" vs "latest" and found the documentation lacking …

https://wiki.freebsd.org/Ports/QuarterlyBranch is recently revised, if that helps.

Not only that, but even on FreeBSD the "latest" and "quarterly" names are not specific to pkg itself, it is just how things are arranged on our cluster.

And the advice to replace url: in /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf is also questionable - this will prevent freebsd-update from updating this file. The correct way to override repository fields is to create additional configs in ${LOCALBASE}/etc/pkg/repos/

In the change proposed in this PR.

I suggest to close/won't-fix this request. As pointed out earlier, this is the wrong place, and the required documentation is available at the right place as mentioned by grahamperrin above.
