Hello hello! 👋

I'm Nathan, a professional developer with several years of experience and a diverse set of interests. I'm currently in my final term of studying Computational Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.

When I'm not working on side projects or contributing to open-source, I enjoy going on walks, playing board games, and doing escape rooms. I'm passionate about a lot of things, ask me about:

  • 🚗 Urban planning
  • 📈 Mathematical investing
  • 🌱 Effective altruism
  • 🎲 Stochastic computing
  • 🐈‍⬛ Foreign cats

🖋️ Why "expitau"?

You'll probably see my handle "expitau" on my website, email, and github. It's actually inspired by a mathematical expression!

$$e^{ix} = \cos(x) + i\sin(x)$$

When we evaluate this expression at $\tau$ (where $\tau = 2\pi$), this formula simplifies to $e^{i \tau} = 1$! Euler's formula is a beautiful, elegant solution to a complex mathematical problem. It seamlessly bridges the seemingly unrelated worlds of calculus, trigonometry, and complex numbers. I believe that complex challenges often have an underlying simplicity, and code should look to unearth this simplicity to be readable, maintainable, and efficient.

⚙️ My Toolbox

Here are some tools I am exceptionally proficient with:

Docker badge Linux badge Javascript badge VSCode badge

The above are tools I have far beyond any reasonable understanding of. I'm familiar with all of their tricks and secrets, I've tried to do some esoteric projects with them, and I've likely read through their source code.

In addition to these, I've used a lot of technologies, so it's very challenging to make a comprehensive list. Here are some more I've worked with:
