v0.6.3
v0.6.2
v0.6.1
v0.6.0
This is a major update. As always, please send feedback!
Dictionary
- 🔨 Fixed: iWords no longer omits words marked as Archaic or Uncommon. This matches the behavior of Interpres.
- 🔄 Changed: iWords now keeps alive one WORDS process per window/tab and communicates with that process continually, rather than launching and killing a new one-time process for each search. This should be easier on battery life and system performance.
User Interface
- ❇️ New: The search field has been moved below the main toolbar into a new "search bar", so that it's always visible and more prominent.
- ❇️ New: You can now open your browser to show definitions from Tuft's Perseus Digital Library.
- After searching, click the new "Perseus" toolbar item, or click "Look Up in Perseus" in the "Dictionaries" menu, or press CMD + ALT + P.
- If there are other online dictionaries you'd like to see added, please reach out.
- ❇️ New: Several new options have been added to a new Preferences window, available from the "iWords" menu:
- You can now choose any font for the results area.
- You can now choose to group results when searching for multiple words at the same time, for greater readability.
- You can now choose whether the search bar expands automatically to fit multiple lines of text.
- You can now choose whether new windows and tabs open as duplicates of the current window or tab.
- ❇️ New: Holding Shift while performing a search or navigating through history will now open that result in a new window or tab.
- ❇️ New: Right-clicking in the results area will show new options for looking up the selected text in iWords or Perseus.
- 🔄 Changed: The "Look up in iWords" shortcut action has been updated to accept and return lists of text.
v0.5.1
- New "Send iWords Feedback via Email" item in the Help menu.
- Update the Help book to add some additional details around Shortcuts integration on macOS 12.
- Update the help book to include details about items available in the menu bar.
- Fix an issue where the subtitle of the window on macOS 11 and 12 could be blank when opening a new window.
- Fix an issue where the current selected direction was not displayed anywhere on macOS 10.
- New windows and tabs now show links to the Help book and to send feedback.
v0.5.0
- Updates the version of the bundled WORDS dictionary. The new dictionary includes about 10x as many English-to-Latin entries as previous, fixing an issue where English-to-Latin lookup for many words would fail in iWords while succeeding in other WORDS-based dictionary programs.
- Replaces the lookup direction dropdown button with a toggle button. Pressing this button (or pressing CMD + D) will now toggle between English-to-Latin and Latin-to-English.
- Adds basic support for printing. File > Print (or CMD + P) will now allow you to print out the visible dictionary entries.
- Fixes an issue where the Font Size toolbar buttons would not correctly enable/disable themselves in response to the app reaching its minimum or maximum allowable font size.
- Adds support for Shortcuts. On macOS, you can now add a "Look Up" action to your shortcuts. This action can look up terms in either direction and then return the results to your shortcut, without needing to open the iWords app.
