Difference between OpenSearchDocumentStore and OpenDistroElasticsearchDocumentStore

The use case for OpenSearchDocumentStore is self-explanatory. From reading the issues, I've come to the understanding that OpenDistroElasticsearchDocumentStore seems to be used for elasticsearch clusters deployed on AWS.

Doc string and warning for OpenDistroElasticsearchDocumentStore

I'm confused because you can choose to deploy elasticsearch in AWS as opposed to opensearch. The fact that ElasticsearchDocumentStore doesn't work with elasticsearch in AWS makes me think that it is not the same as the original elasticsearch and actually opendistro. So are opensearch and elasticsearch on aws both opendistro?

Hi @yemaney apologies for the confusion, OpenDistroElasticsearchDocumentStore is a relic from the past, I'll make sure we get rid of it soon.

Things are much simpler now:

• If you have an Opensearch instance, whether is self-hosted (bare metal, AWS, Azure, GCP, ...) or a hosted service (AWS OpenSearch, Aiven): use OpenSearchDocumentStore
• If you have an Elasticsearch instance, wether it's self-hosted (bare metal, AWS, Azure, GCP, ...) or it's a hosted service like Elastic Cloud: use ElasticsearchDocumentStore
