Ways to get involved

There are many different ways in which you can contribute to URLFrontier and not all of them require advanced programming skills. Here are a few examples:

  1. Give URLFrontier a try and let us know in the discussions section if something is not clear. A simple set of commands will do, to begin with, using the client.
  2. Tell your friends and family about it, or more realistically, your local tech meetup. You never know but someone might find it interesting.
  3. You have a UX / graphic / web design background? We could do with a simple one-page website, ideally, one which can be hosted on GitHub and with the code in a branch of our repo. You don't need to understand the finer details of how URLFrontier works, just what it does in general.
  4. The documentation is something that can always be improved.
  5. Experienced in web crawlers? Great! What about having a go at integrating URLFrontier with your favourite crawler? For instance, take Scrapy and make it talk to URLFrontier.
  6. If you have spare time and hardware, benchmark it or look for bugs.
  7. For the more advanced devs looking for a challenge, look at the current implementation of the service and see if you can make things better, possibly using a different back-end.
  8. Unused servers in your organisation? We'd be happy to use them!
  9. Financial support is always appreciated and allows us to work on new features.

Regardless of how you think you might be able to contribute, feel free to get in touch.
