[Feature Request] Books Finished Per Month/Year should be customizable #84
Description
Activity
Ok, looking at your screenshot, that does indeed look cluttered. Have you noticed that you can zoom with Ctrl+scroll wheel on a PC or with a finger pinch on a smartphone? (It doesn't fully solve your problem, but it might ease the pain for now.) What would a good long-term solution look like for you? A dropdown above the three graphs where you can pick the interval (All, Last 3 years, Last year, Last 6 months)? Or rather buttons with these values?
@DawidGardzinski Just adding you here so you see my reply – looking forward to your take on this.
Yes, I tested the scroll option, but it doesn’t work very well with such wide ranges—it’s difficult to scroll all the way to the extreme values. The dropdown solution sounds great, and it would be even better if the user could narrow down the range themselves by setting the “from” and “to” values, while still keeping the default filters you mentioned.
Implemented in #99
Testable via develop tagged Docker image or from code via the develop branch.
If something is missing, feel free to reopen the issue @DawidGardzinskiWith the “last 3 years” filter, the user would probably expect to see the current year and the previous two years - in this case 2026, 2025, and 2024. Instead, part of 2023 is also included. It probably calculates the range by months, i.e. 36 months back from the current date.
With the “last 30 days” filter, it shows data across two months, which is probably because the test was performed on 11/09 (so -30 days is in previous month). “Current month” might be a better option here.
With “last 6 months”, it shows 7 months. Similarly, with “last year”, it shows 13 months.
The naming of the year filters may be confusing. For example, “last year” could be interpreted as a filter that excludes the current year and only includes the previous one.
It might be clearer to split this into “current year” and “last year”. This way, the meaning of each filter would be more explicit and easier to understand.
I interpreted the selector myself as "how far into the past shall the graph reach from now". Maybe I'll should a small explanation/tooltip.
Interpreting last year as last calender year is something I would like to avoid. Isolated it may make sense, butwhat do we show for last three years then? Last three calender years but not the data of the current year? this would feel wrong for me. Thus I would like to stick with the "how far into the past from now" approach.
If you really want to cutoff latest data and want to show only 2025 data, then you still can use custom and select the range manually.
I thought a while about your comments and yes, I think your approach may be more clear to users than mine. I changed the intervals in #103 to:
Curent year => 01.01. of current year until today
Last year => Full, last calendar year
Last three years => Full two last calendar years + current year until todayReacted by Dawid Gardziński

The setting should also be stored in the database/local storage; otherwise it may looks like this:
