$HOME, sweet $HOME!
My dotfiles are managed using thoughtbot’s wonderfully simple rcm tool
(code • docs).
- Homebrew.
brew install git rcm
- Clone this repo into your code directory, e.g.
~/dev/dotfiles(or~/code/dotfileson older machines). - From scratch, run
script/bootstrapto symlink~/.dotfilesand~/.rcrcinto place, clone toolshed alongside, and runrcup. - The code directory is exported as
$DIRDEVfromzshenv:~/devif it exists, otherwise~/code. Pin it per machine withexport DIRDEV=...in~/.zshenv.local(bootstrap writes this for you if the repo isn't in~/dev). - Ensure
rcmis installed and available in yourPATH(e.g., via Homebrew:brew install rcm). - Subsequently use
rcup,rcdn,lsrc, andmkrcto manage.
Example setup from scratch:
brew install git rcm
git clone https://github.com/cobyism/dotfiles.git ~/dev/dotfiles
~/dev/dotfiles/script/bootstrapMIT ^_^
