Introduction

Welcome to the CHAOSS Onboarding Courses. These courses provide guidelines to help you start your journey in open source or advance and seamlessly navigate through CHAOSS activities.

Getting Started

Thanks for your interest in this onboarding course project. There are a few ways to contribute to this project:

  • Suggest a Topic (Contact amaintainer)
  • Record video for the selected topics(Issues)
  • Write Scripts(Video transcription)
  • Edit recorded videos(Video editing)

To contribute to this onboarding course, please follow the guidelines found in our CONTRIBUTING.md and our Code of Conduct.

If you are new to open source, we recommend GitHub's excellent guide on "How to Contribute to Open Source". In addition, please feel free to contact any of the maintainers if you are struggling; we are here to help you learn.

Submission of Script/Recorded Video/Edited Videos

To submit your Script/Recorded Video/Edited Videos:

  • Add your submission in the Submission.md file
  • Include the link to the Script/Recorded Video or Edited Videos to the issue you worked on, and send a PR.

To send a PR, follow this guide. You can also send your PR with ease using the command line to avoid DOC errors:

1. Add your changes to the Submission.md file
2. After that, click on New Terminal and add the following git command:
    *   git add .
    * git commit -s -m "add commit message here"
    * git push --set-upstream origin (your branch name)
  • If you use CHAOSS Zoom for your recording and couldn't get the link:
    1. Note the date and time of their recording.
    2. Add the date and time to the issue and ask the maintainers to help you with the link to your recordings.
  • Assign the PR to the maintainers for review.

Example Materials

We've provided an example to help you understand the process and see what this should look like at every step along the way, using the Governance video as the example:

CHAOSS Education Working Group

The CHAOSS Education Working Group was formed to address the need for broader engagement for contributors and to have a central place for follow-up.
Objectives:

  • To ensure consistent interaction, guidance, and review with contributors throughout the three-step process necessary to produce high-quality videos.
  • To develop and maintain comprehensive open source educational resources.
  • To provide support for each contributor in a more collaborative environment.
  • To explore and implement innovative formats for educational content delivery eg Infographics and Visual Summaries, Workshops materials etc.
  • To continuously improve the course creation process based on contributor feedback, lessons learned, and evolving best practices in educational content development.

The working group meeting is on CHAOSS calendar. We strongly believe that much of what makes open source so great is the incredible communities it brings together, so we invite you to join us at CHAOSS Slack Community and the #education channel.
