ODEI is open-source education infrastructure that trains developers using real-world FOSS workflows. Maintained by the Bugema Open Source Community, it replaces proprietary tools with reusable, Git-native systems that help universities and communities—especially in the Global South—produce active open-source contributors and maintainers.
Most developer education relies on proprietary platforms. Students graduate without real open-source experience, weakening the global FOSS ecosystem and increasing costs for public institutions.
ODEI provides open infrastructure for developer education:
- Git-based assignments
- CI-driven automated assessment
- Offline-first developer labs
- Contributor onboarding workflows
- Verifiable student portfolios
Open source depends on maintainers and contributors. ODEI strengthens the global FOSS ecosystem by fixing how developers are trained.
