Frequently Asked Questions

The Bitfeed Visualization

What are all the squares?

Each square represents a single Bitcoin transaction.

Squares falling below the dashed line are transactions in the Bitfeed node's mempool

The squares packed together in the middle of the screen are the transactions which make up the latest block. The transactions in a block are arranged in (approximately) their order of appearance in the block, from left to right and top to bottom.

What do the different sizes of the squares mean?

Bitfeed offers two sizing modes. In size by value mode, the width of each square is proportional to the logarithm of the total value of the transaction (this means each additional unit of width represents a 10x increase in value).

In size by vbytes mode, the area of each square is proportional to the size of the transaction in virtual bytes. This gives an intuitive sense of how much each transaction contributes towards the 1MvB block size limit.

What do the different colors mean?

Bitfeed offers two color modes. In color by age mode, new transactions start out orange, then fade gradually to turquoise over 60 seconds. Transactions in a block are all orange.

In color by fee rate mode, the color of each transaction is determined by the fee rate paid, from 1-2 satoshis per vbyte in turquoise to 64+ sats/vbyte in hot pink.

Watchlist Feature

The watchlist feature (🔍 icon in the sidebar) lets you monitor up to 5 addresses or transaction ids. Transactions paying outputs to addresses or matching ids in your watchlist are highlighted in different colors.

If a transaction matches more than one address or id, it is highlighting in the color of the last match

I don't like the highlight colors, can I change them?

No, sorry! There are 5 preset colors for the watchlist, carefully chosen to minimize overlap with the age or fee rate color scales.

More customization options are coming soon.
