In vcpkg, there is a set of patches, mostly related to CMake. Is this something you want to touch, e.g. adopt find_package for zlib, openssl, icu?

On a longer path, there could be exported CMake config.

They need a review. I do have draft work locally, but it would be getting invasive, given that the current CMake code is from the 2.82.6 age and has custom debug postfix code.

In vcpkg, I would often start with a test port, such as compiling hello_world as a standalone CMake project. But it is a long way to go from the 2.82.6 age to exported Modern CMake config with transitive usage requirements.

I see I'll need to do extensive testing on this configs since there is Solaris, BSD and Linux of different flavours, Mac OS X and Windows MSVC and Mingw32 so need to make sure it all works on these platforms.

vcpkg CI is limited to (certain) MSVC, Linux, macOS and Android configuration. Everything else is untested and "community supported". Community activity varies. (E.g. for ICU, I did manual testing of wasm and mingw because I can do it and I know there is interest. But I cannot test ios.)

I have the environment to test everything also not sure about Mac since the service I used seem to stopped working.

Which is the oldest version of CMake you want to support?
The capabilities of the find modules improve over time.

Honestly I don't know. I use very basic stuff for CMakeLists - it started many years ago.
