Accounts and saved searches

Search does not require an account. Guest saved searches use browser storage. After GitHub sign-in, local searches synchronize with the account and can be restored after browser storage is cleared. Local data remains usable during a temporary cloud-sync failure.

A saved search records its name, technology, label, sort order, and active filters. Updating or deleting it changes future recommendation preferences.

Recommendations

The Recommendations tab uses a selected saved search. Results exclude opportunities already saved or opened and show why each issue matched. Prior activity in the same repository can add a small familiarity boost.

Opportunity workflow

Saving an issue or following its GitHub link creates or updates one private opportunity record. Move it through Saved, Asked maintainer, Working, PR opened, Merged, or Abandoned. Each record can include a private note and follow-up date. Age highlighting surfaces items whose state has not changed recently.

OpenIssue.dev does not infer a pull-request relationship merely because an issue and PR share a number. Record the state explicitly unless GitHub exposes a closing-issue relationship.

Contribution history

This tab loads public issues and pull requests authored by the signed-in GitHub user, newest activity first. Data is fetched from GitHub when opened and is not copied into the database. Authored issues matching saved or opened opportunities are annotated.

Feedback and hidden repositories

Signed-in users can dismiss unsuitable recommendations with a reason and hide repositories. Exclusions are stored per user and can be restored from the hidden-repository controls.

Email digests

Weekly digests deliver saved-search matches on Mondays. Send digest now uses the same pipeline and six-day cooldown.

Repository alerts are independent: configure one template with up to five repositories and choose daily, weekly, or fortnightly delivery. Alerts contain up to five recent open issues per repository and are skipped when all selections are unchanged. An optional alert address can override the GitHub-linked email.
