Naming Conventions For Content Areas

Tom Boutell edited this page Jul 8, 2013 · 2 revisions

We follow these conventions when naming Apostrophe content areas in all of our projects. Following them makes it easier to migrate content and to switch a page between templates without content appearing to be lost.

marquee: a large slideshow above the fold. Always a slideshow.

hero: a singleton or otherwise restricted area above the fold. Could be text, could be a static image. Usually large font, there should not be a large amount of text.

body: main content area; "where the main text goes."

body2, body3, body4: additional wide areas, if any, required by the template's design.

sidebar: narrower, secondary content area.

sidebar2, sidebar3, sidebar4: additional narrow areas, if any, required by the template's design.

footer (footer2, footer3, etc.): an area at the bottom of the page. Usually restricted in content. Typically contains address, copyright information, etc.

Note: body, sidebar, footer, etc. are correct. NOT body1, sidebar1, footer1, etc. If there are additional areas placed lower in the same column, they begin with body2, sidebar2, etc.
